Catching up

Kara
Walter had last Thursday off of work so he was able to take Kara to her 15 month check-up. She left with 4 shots and 2 band-aids, plus a sticker! :) Her stats are:
Weight 20.4 ounces
Height 31 inches
Head 45 1/2cm
So, tall and slender but the doctor said she is just slimming down because she is growing taller. She continues to LOVE her brother and really wants to do everything he does and gets mad when she can't~
School
I am back in school and this year will be a challenge. I have 4 children who are repeating, 1 girl who speaks only French, and a girl who just got released from the hospital after having brain surgery in July! I have started to practice French but realized on Friday when giving a Math assessment that I need to now look up academic words and not just routine phrases! But, after grading the math my French missed less than some of my "regular" students! I have a student teacher until October 6th and that will be helpful in the coming weeks too. Carter and Kara are having a blast with their new sitter and I am blessed to have her as well. It is nice to not "worry" during the day or even feel sad. Of course, I would love to stay home but it is good for all of us to have time with others.
Family
We have been having fun the past two weekends just relaxing! It has been so nice to not have to go anywhere and just lay around for as long as we would like. Last Sunday Carter had his milestone at church where he got his beginners bible. This is a little more advance from the one he recieved at his baptism and he loves it! He reads on his own and then we read it together- in fact, he was carrying it around and reading for about 2 days after he got it. He will officially start Sunday School on September 13th~ he can hardly wait. I am ready for the Fall weather--- I think I will have to wait a few more weeks for that. But, I did get out our decor this past Saturday. Maybe that will inspire the weather to change. Haha!!

Last day of summer~

On this last day of summer vacation we have had a hard time getting moving. Our kitchen floor was fixed this morning, we let a dog out that we have been watching all weekend and took a little swim, then played tag in the backyard, and of course took naps! It has actually been very nice to sit around and have nothing to do before the rush of school sets in. Today was an "optional" work day for me and I chose not to go- but will have plenty to do when I return tomorrow. Of course, that is always how it goes- always a list!

This summer has been fantastic for all of us! Despite the bug we had last week we have had a great time waking up and doing whatever we wanted to do. We have been busy but at the same time we have had fun doing all of those things. Now it is time to start getting up by an alarm (tried it this morning and I slept through it!!!) and going to bed at a decent time! It always takes some adjustment time but by next week we will be back to "school routine".

Three year old stats

Despite all of us having a stomache bug we still kept our appointment for Carter to have his three year old check up. It worked all well that Walter was home sick so I didn't have to bring Kara with us to see the doctor.

Of course, I told him we were not having shots (because that is what they told me when I made the appointment) but we left with a bandage and a few tears! He ended up getting a finger prick- which seemed worse than shots! Our three year old boy is :

29.2 pounds (25 %)

39 in. tall (75 %)

So, he is tall and slender. Dr. Stevens did say he was healthy, looked good and he can now get ready for the dentist! Good thing we did add him on the insurance. :)

So, my sister and her family, our family and my mom took a trip to Chicago and then headed to the Upper Peninsula of Michigan to my aunt's cabin. The weather was fabulous and we even had to wear jackets! (And a fire in the fireplace some days in Michigan). We spent the first weekend in Chicago and if you ask my mom we walked too much, but we did see and do a lot. Carter got to ride on a train and Kara went to the American Girl store with her Bitty Baby.

While at the cabin you seem to lose track of time and just enjoy living. It was so nice to not have to go to the store, or have "plans" for the day. We enjoyed playing outside, visiting with relatives, and some days the weather didn't cooperate so we were also able to enjoy a Children's Museum and some sight seeing. Now, it is back to the grind here- school will be starting soon and summer is coming to an end too quickly!
